The story begins during the early days of sugar cane mechanization where the first two of our CAMECO cast of characters enter the scene. The chapters follow a growing and determined cast up to the beginning of the present century as they make their way through the ups and downs of a sometimes volatile sugar industry.
The ten chapter headings in the book follow the progression of this historical development.
Over Six Years
In the Making
To get all of the details of the CAMECO story, the author Albert Belisle Davis interviewed CAMECO customers, corporate partners, and former employees. The research sometimes took the author to places like a tractor museum in Boise, Idaho, but mostly his research meant sifting through piles of CAMECO documents and artifacts.

From the Author
In 2016, Jacob Anthony Giardina finally persuaded me to take on the task of writing a book about a company and an industry I knew next to nothing about.
“Mr Jake” said the story, as amazing as it was important, needed to be preserved before it faded away.
What I didn’t know when I accepted his challenge was that I was about to set out on an adventure that spanned one-hundred years of local and international history. I would also find the answer to a question many of us locals had been asking ourselves: Why did the global corporate powerhouse known as Deere & Company choose to plant some of its major resources in our town of Thibodaux, Louisiana?
